What's the difference between nursery and preschool?
Preschools usually work around a formal curriculum and trained teachers - making them a little more expensive! Nursery schools are usually a more relaxed learning environment and more flexible enrolment terms. They are also cheaper and vary greatly.

My son loves going to preschool, it is such a lovely nurturing environment that really encourages the children to develop and learn through play. They do a wide range of activities and he always comes home excited to share his news from the day. The recent move to the permanent accommodation on the Greentrees primary site has been hugely successful; the rooms are fantastic with lots of good resources and there is a brilliant outdoor play area which the children love. My older son loves attending breakfast club and after school club there too. Would highly recommend!

My daughter is very happy here, the staff are great and really care about the children.

First Steps

41 Brown St, Salisbury SP1 2AS, UK – 01722 410456

Great, friendly staff. Not cheap, but good value for money. Little one loves it.

First Steps is a brilliant nursery. My son has been attending for almost a year and he loves it. He has been learning so much since he started and he only goes twice a week. He is always so excited the morning before he is due in. Me and my husband are so happy with his progress. Just recently Little Kickers have been visiting and he is so excited to tell me about the goals he has scored. He also loves the food and usually has seconds! I could not recommend them anymore highly. I will also be sending my daughter there :)

The Friday treats are amazing. So is everyone. They always smile. I wish that I did not have to leave this place. Quite annoying with the bells but definitely go in for the 11+ and try out for the school. The clubs are really cool. Don't be afraid of the teachers because although some of them may be strict - they are so lovely. If you get Mr Southern - Maths - watch out for Gladiator, Legend and Merge.

Language Schools

Babylon School of English

The Hall, 4 New St, Salisbury SP1 2PH, UK – 01722 432600

I spent a month in the UK, during which I was enrolled in the Young Learners course at Babylon. I came with a group of nine, and we were welcomed very warmly and the airport and taken by a bus to Salisbury where the school is. We were then taken to our host families, who were very welcoming as well. The family I stayed with did everything to make sure I was settled. The food was interesting, as I have never eaten any British dishes. I loved the shepherds pie. The classes were very engaging and fun. The school focuses on building confidence in English more than the extremely arcane stuff, such as grammar; which I greatly enjoyed. One of the classes was about creating an effective survey, and after that, we were given time to survey the people of Salisbury. Once we analyzed the results, we gave presentations about them. I loved this class! In addition to classes, there were excursions to lots of different cities and town within the UK. We were taken to Winchester, Bournemouth, London, Bath, and Oxford. I recommend this summer school to anyone looking to improve their English language, and increase their cultural awareness.

Kip McGrath Salisbury

3 Barnack Business Park,, Blakey Road, Salisbury SP1 2LP, UK – 01722 332200

Our daughter has been attending Kip McGrath for two years now. At the start she was not really "interested" in school, didn't really engage at all. Nowadays she is an active member of her class and on a par with her classmates in most subjects, even ahead in some things such as Maths. (Not to mention, I'm a lot more relaxed about how she's going to make it in the big, wide world!). The tutors at Kip McGrath are at least partially responsible for this improvement. Aside from the tuition, the other big plus for me is the candour. From her tutor I hear all about my daughter's strengths and weaknesses, as opposed to the obfuscated, political correctness I would hear at a school parents' evening.
